Cheers! Squares up! In the recent spate of Valentine’s themed crocheting, we’ve been remiss on publishing squares, those most useful and versatile of patterns. No longer! Here are some squares that will definitely put the cheer back in your crocheting.

Cheers Square Free Crochet Pattern

The Cheers square is an easy yet fancy crochet square that has a dense edge offset by a lacier center that uses voids to offset its almost mandala-like design. A further interesting touch is the square-within-a-square center that is flipped 45 degrees with respect to the outer edge. Coupled with the eight-lobed mandala motif this is a stunning combination that will loook great on its own, or as part of a larger project. A link to the free pattern is included under the photos.

Cheers Square Free Crochet Pattern

Here is a variant that uses a toned-down palette to great effect. Note how the central square in orange is totally offset by its cool and wintery surroundings. It’s so evocative of a winter evening’s bonfire, isn’t it? A link to this free pattern is included under the photos.
